NEW YORK (Reuters) - Consumer sentiment posted a surprisingly sharp fall in early November, hitting its lowest in two years as high energy costs and falling home prices pummeled confidence, a survey released on Friday showed.

The bleak sentiment could also be complicated by a spike in price expectations, which may make an inflation-wary Federal Reserve less likely to cut interest rates to shore up the consumer-driven economy.

The Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers said its gauge of consumer sentiment fell to 75.0 from October's final result of 80.9.

This was well below economists' median expectation of 80.0 in a poll conducted by Reuters and was the lowest since 74.2 in October 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"Consumer confidence sank to its lowest level in two years. Nearly the entire early November decline was among lower-income households due to surging complaints about high gas prices," said a statement accompanying the survey results.

Diwali, Divali, or Deepawali is a major Indian and Nepalese holiday. What started as a harvest festival in ancient times, became associated with many legends and became a significant festival in Hinduism and all the faiths which originated in India - Jainism and Sikhism. Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and some Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Light," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being.

The most popular legend associated with Diwali today is the homecoming of King Rama of Ayodhya after a 14-year exile in the forest.[1] The people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Rama by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (deepa), thus its name, Deepawali, or simply shortened as Diwali.

Some view it as the day Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura or in honor of the day Bali went to rule the nether-world by the order of Vishnu.
The Sikhs have always celebrated Diwali, however its significance increased historically when on this day the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Ji, was freed from imprisonment along with 52 Hindu Kings (political prisoners) whom he had arranged to be released as well. These prisoners were all released at the same time from the famous fort of Gwalior by Emperor Jahangir in October, 1619. Since the kings were also freed, Guru Ji became known popularly as the "Bandi Chhorh" (deliverer from prison). He arrived at Amritsar on Diwali, and the HarMandar Sahib (the "Golden Temple") was lit with hundreds of lamps in celebration. For Sikhs, this day was thereafter known as the "Bandi Chhorh Divas" (the day of freedom).

In India, Diwali is now considered to be a national festival, and the aesthetic aspect of the festival is enjoyed by most Indians regardless of faith

Worker productivity rose at the strongest pace in four years in the third quarter, pushing labor costs down, the usa government said on Wednesday in a report offering comfort to the inflation-wary Federal Reserve.

It was the strongest growth in productivity since a 10.4 percent surge in the third quarter of 2003 and was more than double the revised 2.2 percent gain posted during the second quarter.

"It's a positive signal for growth and it also shows less inflationary pressure. It's very encouraging for the Fed," said economist Michelle Meyer of Lehman Brothers in New York.

The Fed has KEEN EYEand continued to express concern over the potential for inflation, and cited high energy and commodity prices in its last policy announcement. Oil prices on Wednesday set a fresh high above $98 a barrel.
"Businesses have really been focusing on cutting costs, trying to find ways of getting more work out of their work force," said Mark Vitner, senior economist at Wachovia Securities in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hourly compensation gained at a 4.7 percent rate, up from 4.4 percent in the second quarter. But the department said that after the rise in consumer prices was taken into account, compensation per worker was up a more modest 2.7 percent.

Story of the day

Vinata, mother of Garuda, had been enslaved by the nagas after she had quarrelled with their mother, Kadru. The nagas offered to release Vinata from servitude if Garuda brought them amrita (nectar of immortality) from the moon.

Garuda brought the nectar after overcoming numerous obstacles, battling even the gods in the process.
The nagas were delighted when he placed the pot containing the nectar before them. They let Vinata go and then they went to wash themselves before partaking of the ambrosia.
On their return they found the pot missing. Indra had taken it away. The nagas feverishly tried to lick up the drops of nectar that had fallen on the darbha grass on which the pot had been kept. They didn't get much nectar, but the sharp blades of the grass slit their tongues.
Snakes ever since have had forked tongues.

These projects may include ultra-mega power projects announced by federal and state governments or state-run utilities, and projects independently developed by Sterlite Energy with a capacity of 10,000 mega-watts, it said in a statement.

The company is looking at financing options through equity and debt for these projects, majority of which, if awarded, are expected to be commissioned over the next five years, the statement said.

Trading the stock market
When we trade, you want to do so with the highest probability of success . With the mind, and knowing thats as human we can become emotional, you need to develop a trading strategy that is logical, measurable and most importantly repeatable. No guesswork or "get fuel", just a simple strategy that will insure you achieve consistently profitable results.
Unfortunately to many people either don't have a workable system when trading in the market or they lose their money before they gain enough experience to be successful long term. Since it is difficult to see future, we take shelter in past to predict future. It is like driving the car by only looking into rear view mirror. Rear view mirror only reflects the road, which has already been traveled. The reason we consider an investor speculator when he invest after markets have fallen is because we are referring our judgment on past events. The same is true when we refer to someone as an investor after markets have risen. However we all know that “past performance may or may not be repeated” – To drive ahead we need to look in front and not in rear view mirror. .

STORY OF THE DAY

Many tales are told about Neptune the Roman god of the sea. Neptune was said to be one of the most generous of the gods.
One day a woman who lived close to the sea went down to the beach and began singing songs in his praise. Finally the god came to the surface and asked her what she wanted.
“I want a cow,” said the woman.

The next moment there was a cow standing beside her. The woman was thrilled. She began singing another song. At the end of it there was another cow beside her. The woman went on singing and every time she stopped for breath there would be another cow on the beach. The beach was small and so as the number of cows started growing it started getting crowded. Finally there was just enough room for her to stand. Yet the woman was not satisfied. There was a large rock at her feet. She felt that if she removed the rock there would be place for one more cow there. So she picked it up and summoning all her strength heaved it into the sea. Unfortunately for her, Neptune himself was coming to the surface at that moment to bestow his blessings on his devotee. The rock hit him on the head. The god was so angry he dived back into the waters taking with him all the cows he had given the woman.

STORY OF THE DAY

Murugar is the second son of Siva and Parvati, brother of Lord Ganesha. Murugar is worshipped widely in Southern India, especially in Tamilnadu. In fact, he is called the Tamil Kadavul (The Lord of the Tamil people).

He was once upset that Lord Siva gave the sacred fruit to Ganesha and tricked him out of winning it. He is said to have left the Himalayas, the abode of Lord Siva & Parvati and settled down on a hill top in Tamilnadu in the South. Most of the Murugar temples are located on top of small hills and he is also known as the Kundra Kadavul (Lord who is seated on a hill, kundru - hill).
He was born for the sole purpose of destroying Sura Padman, an asura who was giving immense trouble to the Devas & rishis. Murugar is said to have been created from the sparks from Lord Siva's third eye. Vayu and Agni Deva carried the sparks and dropped it in the Ganges which was carried to the Saravana Poigai. Six babies arose from the sparks and the six children were brought up by six women known as the Karthigai Pengal (pengal - women). When Parvati picked up the six children, Lord Muruga appeared as one baby. Muruga is sometimes depicted with six heads. When the time was ripe to destroy Sura Padman, Parvati gave him her Sakthi Vel. Murugar fought with Sura Padman, destroyed him. During the fight, every time his head was cut, Surapadman got a new head – a lions, a tigers, goat, etc. Murugar decided to cut him up vertically in two halves when he took the form of a tree. He is kind even to his enemies and thus took one half of the tree as his vahana in the form of a peacock and took the other half of the tree as a cock emblem in his flag.
He is known as Shanmukha because of his six heads. I am providing here the explanation given by Swami Harshananda in the book 'Hindu Gods and Goddesses' published by Sri Ramakrishna Math.

Of course, even a boy knows that biologically this is impossible even as an angel with wings is! But a concept like this can be conceded if it fits into useful philosophical postulations. His six heads represent the five sense organs and the mind, which co-ordinates their activities. When these are controlled, refined and sublimated, man becomes a superman. This is the implication of the symbology.
According to Yoga psychology, there are six centres of psychic energy, of consciousness, in the human body, designated as Chakras. They are Mulaadhaara (at the anus), Svaadhisthaana (at the root of the sex organ), Manipura (at the navel), Anaahata (at the region of the heart), Visuddha (at the throat), Ajna (between the eyebrows) and Sahasraara at the top of the head which is the destination for this energy. When the Yogi successfully raises his psychic energy to this topmost centre he has a vision of Siva-Sakthi.
Though it is the same energy that flows through all the six centres, in the case of an ordinary being, it is concentrated in the three lowest centres. In a perfect being the flow is so refined and uniform, that practically all the centres have been elevated to the highest level. Subrahmanya represents this perfected state of spiritual consciousness.

Lord Muruga is considered very handsome, brave, just. Even though he was seen as a playful youngster, he was also extremely knowledgeable – enough to test Lord Brahma himself. When reprimanded by Lord Siva, he justified his action by telling Siva the meaning of the OM (pranava mantram). He is therefore known as Swaminathan, one who preached even to Siva.
His other namas (names) are Subrahmanya, Shanmukha, Kaartikeya, Skanda, Kumara, Devasenapati, Saravanabhava, Guha, Swaminathan, etc.
Lord Muruga has two consorts - Valli and Devasena. Valli is a tribal girl and Devasena is the daughter of Indra, the king of the Devas. His mount is the peacock.
The Arupadai Veedu are the six most important temples to Lord Muruga. He gives this darshan in each of these temples in six different forms pertaining to six different stages in his life. Palani, near Madurai where he is said to have created his own abode when he was angry of having been cheated out of the sacred fruit. Swamimalai, where he is shown preaching to his father, Lord Siva. Tiruchendur, by the seashore is where Muruga vanquished the asura Surapadman. Tiruparamkundram, near Madurai celebrating Murugar's marriage to Devasena. Tiruttani, near Tirupati where Muruga married Valli. Pazhamudircholai, near Madurai where Lord Muruga gives darshan with Valli and Devasena.
